The first was signed by a sudden and dramatic rise of food prices and developed into the second one which was mainly of a financial nature. Food price rises typically erode the purchasing power, in particular of those at the lower end of the income distribution, therefore working as a driver of economic and social inequalities. This paper has assessed the implications of the international food price surge in terms of food availability and access to food in low- and middle-income countries. </p> ER -
