El declive y el posterior cierre de las minas ha sumido a la villa en un trance del que no ha podido salir ni siquiera con la revalorización de su extraordinario patrimonio tras el reconocimiento de la UNESCO, que lo ha incluido en su lista mundial. Almagro, donde residieron los administradores de las minas durante la Edad Media y la Moderna, generó un importante patrimonio edilicio, distinguido como conjunto histórico-artístico. La conservación de su teatro del Siglo de Oro está en la base de la regeneración de la ciudad para una función turístico cultural que gira en torno al Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico. El envite para el turismo cultural tiene, pues, dos caras opuestas en Castilla-La Mancha, hecho de indudable interés para otros territorios mineros, como Asturias.</p><p>Le mercure était la raison d’être d’Almadén depuis le Moyen Âge. Le déclin et la fermeture ultérieure de la mine ont plongé la ville dans une transe à laquelle elle n’a pas pu échapper, même avec la revalorisation de son patrimoine extraordinaire suite à la reconnaissance de l’Unesco, qui l’a inscrite sur sa liste mondiale. Almagro, où résidaient les administrateurs des mines au Moyen Âge et à l’époque moderne, a généré un important patrimoine bâti, distingué comme un complexe historique et artistique. La préservation de son théâtre du Siècle d’or espagnol est à la base de la régénération de la ville vers une fonction touristique culturelle qui s’articule autour du Festival International de Théâtre Classique. L’offre pour le tourisme culturel a, par conséquent, deux visages opposés en Castilla-La Mancha, un fait sans aucun doute d’intérêt pour d’autres territoires miniers, comme les Asturies.</p><p>Mercury was the raison d’être of Almadén since the Middle Ages. The decline and further mine closure had sunk the city into severe difficulties. This situation has not even overcome with the revaluation of its extraordinary heritage awarded by the Unesco, which has included it in its World List. Almagro, where mining administrators lived during the medieval and early modern period, produced an important building heritage, distinguished as Historic and Artistic Ensemble. The preservation of its Spanish Golden Age theatre constitutes the key element of an urban regeneration process based on the promotion of the cultural and tourist function which revolves around the International Classical Theatre Festival.
