Psychological treatments in Social phobia: A critical review.- Social phobia is a newly defined disorder about which little is currently known. This review is directed at examining the clinical syndrome, diagnostic issues and treatment strategies. The literature regarding the cognitive/behavioral procedures and combinations of procedures for social phobia is reviewed, including social skills training, exposure, and cognitive restructuring techniques. Exposure, with the including of cognitive techniques or other coping procedures, appears to be a promising treatment. Limitations of the existing literature are summarized, and suggestions for future research are offered with respect to methodology, the search of predictors, and treatment comparisons.
