Abstract
Schools are increasingly besieged by pressures demanding that they be subordinated to purposes external to their own nature: the productive efficiency required by the labour market or the pursuit of immediate social transformation. In response to this, the article offers a philosophical reading of Hannah Arendt's political and educational texts, aiming to conceptually delineate a category not explicitly formulated in her work: the pedagogy of suspension. The hermeneutical analysis of some of her key concepts —world, natality, plurality, tradition— makes it possible to understand the school as a space that provisionally interrupts the demands of production and politics in order to enable the encounter of new generations with the world that precedes them. The article concludes that this suspension does not entail political neutrality or evasion, but rather makes it possible to preserve and unfold the potential for renewal that new generations bring with them: what Arendt calls natality.
