Abstract

Procesamiento de información. Event-related potentials and reaction time. - The main goal of this research was to study the relationships between Reaction Time (RT) and the latencies of different componente of Event Related Potentials (ERPs) recorded in a visual discrimination task. The ERPs componente peaking before P3 were specially investigated. The use of this measures of latency as indicators of mental procesos taking place between stimulus and response, allowed us TO analyze the different RT sources of variance. 31% of this variance, was explained by the time spent in sensorial processing (Occipital components P1 and N2a), and 48% was explained by stimulus classification lasting time (Occipital component N2b). Qualitative ERPs differences related with RTs size were found: short RTs appeared associated with increassing overlapping of information processing stages.
