Abstract

Bivariate time series analysis: Application to social research framework. The aim of this paper is to apply the bivariate time-series analysis within the frame of applied social psychology. The variables related to this procedure are unemployment and suicide. In the period analysed (1978-1985) referring to Spain as a whole a significative relationship is detected between unemployment rates (an independent variable) and suicide rates (a dependent variable) after a nine months (CCF = -.27, st.e = .12). i.e. an independent variables effect on a dependent variable. These findings are similar to other studies and are evidence that in industrialised countries unemplovment is made up of several factors which can be linked to suicide behaviour.
