Abstract

Vídeo games, personality and behavior. We analyzed the personality differences between heavy video game players and infrequent or casual ones in the following seven variables: Neuroticism, Extroversion, Psychoticism, Sincerity, Antisocial Behavior, Criminal Behavior, and Gambling. It was only possible to demonstrate significative differences in Extroversion and Criminal Behavior between heavy and infrequent players. Extroversion results are similar to that we have found by other authors. In this sense the heavy players show greather extroversion levels than infrequent ones. The Criminal Behavior results should be carefully interpreted because this variable has a positive and significative correlation with Sincerity, Psychoticism and Antisocial Behavior. This findings could serve us to consider that video games players have a great self criticism and they have a tendency to be less conventional that the controls. It has not been possible to establish some significant differences with the variable Chance Game Frequency.
