Abstract

The relation between attitudes and implicit theories: Its study in intergroup conflict situations. The aim of this study is to analyse the relation between implicit theories and attitudes. Two researchs were carried out to know the beliefs and attitudes towards conflict between people from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The first study was comprised by two hundred and eighty eight individuals from both places. They filled in a questionnaire where the implicit theories were underlying and a Semantic Differential, referred to the conflict. In the second study the sample was comprised by two hundred and thirty seven individuals from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In this case, they fill in a Fishbein and Ajzen attitudes questionnaire, and also the two previous used scales. Findings show a complementary and a light link between implicit theories and attitudes, likewise its usefulness when social problems are investigated.
