Abstract

Detection of spatial frequencies on albino and pigmented mice (II. Females). Detection of square-wave stationary spatial frequencies has been studied behaviorly on 48 female albino mice. Results are compared with previous data of male albino mice of the same strain and obtained with the same methodologie. The frequency sensitivity curve (FSC) of males and females shows similar characteristics but a difference appears at high spatial frequencies. Females show a lower cut-off frequency than males, between 0.37-0.42 c/°. Detection of high spatial frequencies (values at limit for albino mice) has also been studied in 12 female pigmented mice. Again, the cut-off frequency for this group is lower than for the males of their own strain, between 0.40-0.45 c/°. The difference observed in the frequencies at limit was not observed in the other frequencies studied, where females show levels of detection similar or even higher than the males of their respective strain.
