Abstract

Reversal of specific expectational deficits generated by uncontrollability. In this research we used a sample that was previously exposed to uncontrollable aversive events, they were sent to a "therapy" phase in which they worked in a task about the escape-avoidance of a sound using a computer. The independent variables used were: a) the rate of reinforcement received (100%, 70%, 50% y 0%); b) failure sequences in the 50% and 70% (isolated -N1- or grouped in three sequences -N3), and c) attributional failure instructions to the lack of effort. In a latter phase of extinction persistency of the effects of the "therapy" phase were studied. The dependent variables evaluated were specific expectancies of succes and uncontrollability. The results show that both programs, continous and partial reinforcement do not modify uncontrollability expectancies but do improve success ones.
