Abstract
W. James' stream of consciousness as stream of discriminated contingencies. In his book "Principles of Psychology", W. James offered five characteristics to describe "the stream of consciousness". J. B. Fuentes has proposed, based on the Skinner's functional analysis of behavior, his "discriminated contingency" concept. This work's main objetive is to show the affinity between James' consciousness characteristics and Fuentes' "discriminated contingency" concept. Finally, is suggested how the "discriminated contingency" concept, defines the texture of everyday life in that socio-historical contexts characterized by the anthropological figure, also proposed by Fuentes, of "personally unresolved norm conflict", as is the case of modernity; which means that James' "stream of consciousness" is the stream of the modern everyday life itself.
