Abstract

Adaptation of a questionnaire for the assessment the illness representation. This study was conducted to study an spanish adaptation of the Turk, Rudy and Salovey's Implicit Model of Illness Questionnaire for the measurement of the illness representation. We have considering illness like the image or idea that the people had about the illness. The IMIQ, concerning four different diseases (cancer, diabetes, flu and hypertension) was administrated to 571 subjects, students of the University of Alicante. An analysis test-retest and the calculation of the Coeficiente Alfa of Cronbach was carried out, in order to stablish the reliability, and an factor analysis in order to determine the validity. The differences between the different illness were analyzed using the oneway ANOVA with the procedure of Schefée for multiple comparisons. The results guarantee the psychometric caracteristics of the questionnaire, and they revealed a nine-dimensional structure of illnesses named Identity, Cause, Inability, Cure, Personal Responsibility, Controlability, Changeability and Chance.
