Abstract

Analysis of socialization parenting styles related to adolescent alcohol abuse. The aim of this research is to establish the relations existing between the parental styles of family socialization and the use of alcoholic drinks amongst teenagers. Thus, there has been selected a sample of 1100 teenagers of both sexes, from public and private institutes in Valencia (Spain). To obtain the data of this research, two different scales have been used: A) EMBU 89 Scale: A scale of 81 items grouped in six factors related to six different parental strategies of education of their children: Overprotection, Comprehension and Support, Punishment, Pressure to Achievement, Rejection and Disapproval. B) HABICOL-92 Scale: An instrument realized with the objective of evaluating the use of different types of alcoholic drinks by teenagers during the weekends. A discriminating analysis has been applied, which results show that the factors with the highest discriminating power between the different levels of alcoholic use are Disapproval, Punishment and Rejection.
