Abstract
The measurement of Narcissistic Personality. The purpose of this study was to explore the psychometric characteristics of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) in its Spanish version. Ninety four instructors (60 men and 34 women) of a private Mexican college completed the NPI (Raskin y Terry, 1988). Analysis of results included Cronbach's alpha coefficient and interscale item analysis (Johnson. 1951); construct validity was explored by principal component analysis and varimax rotation; in addition, the NPI overall mean for each component of the English and Spanish version was compared through a zx for independent samples. Results suggest the NPI might be a recommendable measure to assess narcissism in Spanish-speaking normal populations. Yet, further studies using larger samples and inter-item factorial anlysis are needed to verify its psychometric characteristics in Spanish-speaking populations.
