Abstract

Event-Related Potentials and Motor Response differences in Low and High IQ Groups. This research aims to demostrate the relationship between components of event-related potentials, motor response and IQ. Twenty participants were divided in two groups: IQ higher than 110, and lower than 84. We recorded long latency potentials from vertex, concurrently with electromiogram and reaction time. We found that correlations between negative latencies of ERPs associated with the end of the movement -N200 for frequent tone and N300 for rare tone-, and the interval of movement time was larger in the low IQ group. Amplitudes of ERPs in the low IQ group, in response to stimuli without motor response, were larger than amplitudes in the high IQ group. Our results suggets than intelligence is related to negative components of evoked potentials and timing of motor response.
