Abstract
Efficacious psycholog ical treatments for eating disorders. We review the differential effectiveness for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder and we propose the areas of study on these disorders for the next decade. Obesity has been omitted for this review. Data for the available research offer differential results with respect to the treatment efficacy on eating disorders. In bulimia nervosa there is enough evidence showing the superior ity of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in front of other kind of therapies. It is possible that interpersonal therapy be the election treatment when CBT fails. In binge eating disorder, self-help prog rams for mild cases and CBT for the other are the treatments to be applied. The scope in the treatment of anorexia nervosa is different; by now the only treatment that works is nutritional rehabilitation. For this disorder it is still necessary to develop and apply structured treatment programs and to study their efficacy.
