Abstract
Efficacious psychological treatments for generalized anxiety disorder. The effects of the most researched treatments for the generalized anxiety disorder are reviewed. Several studies show convergent conclusions: Cognitive-behavioral treatments appear to be the most effective ones, if attrition and medium term effects are considered. Behavioral interventions are, also, effective but in a lesser degree. Both kind of interventions seem to be more effective than pharmacological treatments, as the last ones only show effects at the short term and they are not free from side effects. Combination of the different types of therapies does not appear to improve the effects of cognitive-behavioral interventions for generalized anxiety disorder.
