Abstract

Contemporary Developments in the Psychology of Touch: the Neogibsonian Studies on Dynamic Touch. This study presents some contemporary developments on the Psychology of Touch. Specifically, it is argued that this developments have revolutionized a discipline with a smaller development than vision or audition, due to the classical sensorial and passive perspective. Thus, the study of active touch, supported by classical authors like Gibson, Katz and Revesz, has been only partially developed in the research of the soviet school of Psychology, which analysed the "choreography" of handmovements during exploration, and the research group headed by Lederman and Klatzky, which developed another system for analysing those movements. However, the research on the so called Dynamic Touch headed by Turvey, is actualising Gibson's Theory of affordances, with non-representational models and the definition of physical parameters derived from rotational mechanics, that allow the formalization of touch functioning.
