Abstract
Sexual abuse of people with mental retardation. This article is a review of the sexual abuse of people with mental retardation. It starts with an overview emphasizing the vulnerability of these persons. Next, it examines the myths and sexual strategies of these people which generate negative attitudes and prejudices towards them, increasing their risk of sexual abuse and exploitation. Third, features and consequences of maltreatment situations are described. And, finally, several intervention and prevention strategies are proposed.
