Traditionally the coping strategies have been divided into focused on the problem and focused on the emotion. Another classification could consider the adequacy of the strategy to the proposed situation. The caregiver of Alzheimer Patient is under stressful situations as a consecuence of his task It is sought to study the relationship strateg y-burden and strategy-optimism, as well as to compare these two types of classifications (focused on the problem / emotion versus appropriate / inadequate). In this study 85 principal caregivers of Alzheimer Patients, participated. There have been found differences in the number of inadequate strategies used in function of the level of Burden. Also significant relationships between optimism-inadecuate strategies and optimism-strategies focused on the problem have appeared. These results show the utility of using a criterion of adaptation from the strategies to the proposed situation in the caregivers of Alzheimer Patients.
