Abstract
Psychometric properties of the Claustrophobia Questionnaire in Spanish population. The concept of claustrophobia has been reviewed in the last years. Its meaning has changed fron a unidimensional to a multidimensional construct related to the fear about the consequences of being in a closed space, concretely, fear to restriction and suffocation. In this framework, Rachman & Taylor (1993) designed a questionnaire, the Claustrophobia Questionnaire (CLQ), which most recent version was done by Radomsky, Rachman, Thordarson, McIsaac & Teachman (2001). The studies carried out about this measure showed two separate but related factors (restriction and suffocation). The CLQ has showed good psychometric properties in English-speaking populations. The present work offers psychometric characteristics of this questionnaire in a Spanish sample composed by undergraduate students. The findings confirmed a two-factor solution, high internal consistency, and a high correlation with other scales measuring trait anxiety, anxiety sensitivity, panic, agoraphobia, and other phobias (STAI, ASI and FQ).
