Abstract
Substance use in adolescence: Importance of parental warmth and supervision. The aim of the present paper focuses on the relationship between some family factors such as parental warmth/involvement and strictness/supervision, and adolescents' involvement in substance use. The sample comprises 1347 school adolescents within an age range of 16 to 19 years (608 boys -45.1%- and 739 girls -54.9%-). The participants were asked to complete the Parental Warmth/Involvement and Parental Strictness/Supervision subscales from the Parenting Scales (Lamborn, Mounts, Steinberg y Dornbusch, 1991). Besides, we assess the use of different kinds of substances (alcohol, tobacco and other substances), the starting age and some sociodemografic characteristics. The results point out the importance of these parental patterns with respect to adolescents' involvement in substance use.
