Abstract

Cognitive and behavioral approaches: an evaluation of two programmes with unemployed. According to the Bureau of Labour Organisation in 2000 there were sixty million people between 15 -24 lo oking actively for a jo b (BLO, 20 01). The psychologists are aware o f this pro blem and have developed programmes to help the unemployed enter into the working life. In this study we comp are the effectiveness of two schemes develo ped to enhan ce the skills of the unemployed to get a job. The results sug gest that the cognitive treatment reduced the period of search, an d facilitated the transition of the youn g into the working life. Nevertheless, previou s research has showed that the effectiven ess of these programmes is closely related to th e profile of the target group. Keep ing this in mind, we finally turn to specific guidelines that set the stage for effective use of these schemes with young unemployed.
