Abstract

Role stress and its influence on physical and psychological well-being in professional soldiers. The aim of this study is to evaluate the levels of role conflict and ambiguity and the relationship between these role stressors and the physical well-being and the psychological well-being (burnout), in a sample of 357 professional soldiers from the Spanish Army. Data were collected by Rizzo, Jouse & Lirtzman (1970) scale for role conflict and ambiguity, by the MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory, Schaufeli, Leiter, Maslach y Jackson, 1996) for burnout. To measure Physical well-being the scale of physical well-being from the OSI (Occupational Stress Indicator; Cooper, Sloan & Williams, 1988) was used. Results shows moderate role conflict and ambiguity for the sample. Physical symptoms and burnout didn't show high levels. A significant relationship was demonstrated between role stressors and physical and psychological well-being.
