Abstract
Effect of the semantic relation between pictures in language production. Three experiments are reported for assessing semantic and lexical processes in speech production. The semantic relation between prime and target pictures was manipulated. In Experiment 1, we failed to find semantic effects in a picture naming task. However, related picture primes produced faster responses in a categorization task (Experiment 2). This facilitation effect was obtained again in a naming task in which semantic processing was encouraged (Experiment 3). Results are discussed in the context of language production models. In addition, results are compared with those obtained with word primes in stroop-like and priming paradigms.
