Abstract

Codependency in families of drug users and non-users: Phase II. The article presented here is an extension of a previous study recently published by Perez y Delgado (2003), in which statistical differences between the measured codependency variables were found in two sample groups characterized by having and not having an emotional relationship with a drug-dependent significant other. The present findings indicate that there is no statistical significance to support the influence of gender on the prediction of codependency. In addition, linear multiple regression and logistic regression analyses show that the variables that discriminate between the condition of having or not having an affective bond with a drug-dependent person are: early exposure to a coercitive parenting style during childhood, and high levels of self-neglecting/altruistic behavior patterns. Some practical implications of the presented findings are discussed.
