Abstract

Perceived needs by disabled people who are ageing. In this issue a research focussed in the topic of disability and ageing is described, more concretely, about the perceived needs by disabled people who are ageing, especially those related to the quality of life. To assess such perceived needs a semi-structured interview, following the Schalock theoretical model of quality of life, has been built and applied to 325 disabled people, older than 45 years. Another parallel interview to their families and the directive and professionals of the associations and centers they belong to, has been carried out as well. With such a purpose, firstly, the concepts of ageing, disability, quality of life and perceived needs are revised, as a theoretical frame of this research. Secondly, the field study description is carried out as well as the methodology follow up, the chosen sample, the main perceived needs prevalence analysis and its breakdown according to the different typologies of disability and other factors of risk which lead to the existence of such needs. Finally, conclusions about the program efficacy and possible intervention targets and goals are commented in order to promote the attention of the needs of disabled people who are ageing.
