Abstract
Taste preference in opioid addicts. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of heroin on the metabolism of carbohydrates in a sample of drug dependent individuals from the assistantial network of the Antidrug Agency of the Community of Madrid. The sample included two groups of participants, comprised of 46 heroin addicts and 28 abstinent individuals to whom the Taste Preference Test was experimentally administered. Te results supports the most recent research tendencies, which corroborate addicts' more pronounced preference for sweets and other foods with a higher content of carbohydrates. The discussion generated by this work allows one to foresee the future development of experimental models of drug dependency that will help to clarify the psychobiological mechanisms underlying this phenomenon
