Abstract

Understanding false beliefs and non-literal utterances in adopted adolescents. The aim of this study is to analyse the understanding of false beliefs and non-literal utterances in adopted adolescents as well as the predictive capacity of their personal variables. The sample is made up of 54 adopted adolescents with ages ranging from 11 to 18. The results show worse performance in the understanding of non-literal utterances than of false beliefs. According to a linear regression analysis, linguistic level and the time spent in institutional protective care are the factors that best predict performance in theory of mind tasks.
