Abstract
Establishment of pictorial categories through equivalence relations. Equivalence relations training has been used to create pictorial categories between non-realistic pictures and words. The conditional discrimination allows the creation of new relationship among stimuli that has not been presented together directly. Specific software was designed, with it's usefullness and reliability also being tested. A singlecase design of alternating treatments was used, with replications carry out on 10 normal subjects. The procedure used was matching-to-sample with 4 comparison stimuli. The group of stimuli was 16 pictures and 4 words. The equivalence relations were formed with 4 stimuli classes, with 5 stimuli in each one. The results showed that all the participants formed the pictorial categories correctly (100% correct responses). The participants created relationhips between the paintings, and they also created relationships between pictures and categories without being trained directly. The process of equivalence relationhips is replicated with a new kind of stimuli; and its potential educational use is suggested.
