Abstract

The Child Abuse Potential Inventory validation in Mexico. The aims of this study were to adapt and validate the Milner's (2nd Ed., 1986) Child Abuse Potential Inventory (CAPI) in Nuevo Leon population. Two samples were used, a control sample of 189 subject and a second sample of 26 abusers that were attending for evaluation in centers of familiar violence attention. Both samples were taken in Monterrey city and were equivalent concerning social status, age and gender. We got 31 of the 77 items of the Abuse Scale that were discriminative, whose simple sum defines a scale that is consistency (alpha= 0,86), with a positive skew distribution and a structure of 6 independent factors that is resembled to the original scale, especially in the Distress and Rigidity factors. These 31 items allow a good classification of the subjects (80% of accuracy). We encourage the replication of the study to other parts of the Republic with a bigger sample-case.
