Abstract

Organizational antecedents of mobbing: an exploratory study. In last years, mobbing has received increased attention and has been recognised as an important social problem. Traditionally, empirical researches into the causes of mobbing at work have divided into three approaches (Einarsen, 2000): personality characteristics of both perpetrator and victim, inherent characteristics of human interactions within organizations and psychosocial factors. The aim of this study was to analyze in an exploratory way whether the organizational variables significantly predict the occurrence of mobbing. The sample consisted of 103 employees of the Community of Madrid. The results of the regression analysis showed significant results that support the organizational hypothesis in the mobbing process, being especially relevant the role that plays as much the organizational politic as the type of contract as antecedents of mobbing at work.
