Abstract
Western Sahara, one of the great forgotten conflicts, has been occupied by the Kingdom of Morocco since 1975, seeing its abundant natural resources expropriated and its expectations of realising its right to self-determination completely frustrated, in violation of the most basic rules of international law. The position taken by the European Union in the conflict is particularly complex: on the one hand, it is conditioned by its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco and its economic interests in the territory of Western Sahara, and, on the other, by respect for international law.
