The manorial regime in Asturias from the 16th to the 19th century

Abstract

The objective of this report is to research the manors in the Principality of Asturias from the 16th to the 18th century because since then, it would only remain its ancestral base. Firstly, I have focused on the eclesiastical lordships due to both their impor- tance in the region and their complex evolution. I have carried out an analisis of all its aspects, from the faculties of the lord to the disassociations of his jurisdiction in the 16th century for its subsequent sale. Secondly, I try to adress the extensive content of secular manors, focusing on the 18th century, which is the period from which we have more information. In order to achieve an easy and simple reading, I have organized these places according to the noble house to which they belonged. In the third and last place, I have analyzed the different events that led to the abolition of these manors in Spain and more briefly in Asturias, due to the scant information available.
