Abstract
With preferential attention to autobiographical writings and his academic record, guarded in the National Historical Archive, this article takes a look at the vocational and, ultimately, professional choice undertaken by the Asturian novelist Armando Palacio Valdés (1853-1938) while studying at the Law School of the Central University of Madrid, where he finally graduated having passed some of the subjects at the alma mater of Oviedo.
