Abstract
This article provides an estimate of the prevalence of loneliness in community senior centers that affects more than half of the users.
Additionally, the bases of an innovative intervention proposal are empirically established with the objective of empowering people to manage their loneliness based on: improving the involvement and enjoyment in solitary activities; transforming ideas, beliefs and attributions about loneliness; promoting beliefs in the ability to cope with loneliness and isolation; improving control believes; and reducing negative stereotypes and self-fulfilling prophecies.
