Abstract

The Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiol a, who lives in Milan, has dreamed up a universe with her furniture and interior design at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona, a universe in which one is submersed in the most international design of the XXI century. This article tries to analyze the great scenography of restrained luxury created by the author and other considerations of contemporary design. Concepts such as good taste, continuity, refinement, essentiality, sensibility or delicacy join femininity to become a constant throughout these pages. The work carried out by Urquiola in this luxurious building confirmed her arrival based on h er own merits in the area of the international contemporary design and lead her to the pinnacle as a multifaceted designer ready to adapt herself to the highest demands of the market. The Mandarin’s interior design is the proof that Urquiola not only reached the top but is going to stay there, adding her excellence to the short list of women designers throughout the history of design.
