Fundada en 1534, la capital de Ecuador constituyó, como otras muchas en el continente americano, el punto de partida para las posteriores fundaciones, con el fin de organizar coherentemente su espacio circundante. En la actualidad, su apreciado casco histórico manifiesta en su pervivencia morfológica y en su función representativa el peso del pasado hispánico, aunque sufra un cierto deterioro y algunas de sus funciones terciarias se hayan desplazado a sectores urbanos más recientes.

Quito: tradition hispanique dans la géographie d'une ville andine.- Fondée en 1534, la capitale de l'Equateur fût, comme beaucoup d'autres dans le continent américain,le premier pas pour les fondations postérieures qui devraient organiser d'une façon cohérente leur espace circondant. Aujourd'hui son apprecié centre historique manifeste le poids du passé hispanique dans sa pervivence morphologique et sa fonction représentative, quoiqu'il soit un peu deterioré et certaines de ses activités tertiaires aient été déplacées vers d'autres secteurs urbains plus récents.

Quito: hispanic tradition in the geography of  an andeantown.- Founded in 1534, Quito has been, as many other towns all over the american continent, the first step for the further foundations which should organize the sorrounding territory. At the present time its estimable historical city center shows the weight of hispanic tradition through the morphological survival and the representative function, in spite of its slight deterioration and the migration of some of its tertiary functions to newer urban sectors.
