Abstract
Energy poverty is a growing problem in our community and several measures have been adopted at European and national level in recent times. The European Directives on energy have empowered member states to impose public service obligations on undertakings and define the concept of the vulnerable consumer. In our country, Law 24/2023, December 26th, specifies public service obligations. Mostly, we can refer to a social electricity tariff defined as a discount on the price of electricity and the assumption of defaults and financing cost on the electricty bill to a certain category of vulnerable consumers. In this article a review of some controversial issues concerning the regulation of the social electricity tariff is carriet out. In the current context, CNMC plays a key role by monitoring retail markets and ensuring the accomplishment of consumer protection measures.
