Simon Loscertales Bona and the art of furniture (1890–1971): designs and historical techniques in an aragonese firm with international reach

Loscertales is one of the most important figures in the history of furniture-making in Aragon. Its origins date back to the cabinetmaking workshop of Luciano (1864), Simón’s father, who, after a process of specialization in Spain and Europe, assumed the commercial management of the company in 1914. The firm’s attention to design and customization in its commissions positioned it as one of the most sought-after among bourgeois, diplomatic, and aristocratic clients on the international stage. Numerous unpublished sources are preserved, both in the family’s private archive and in public collections, providing abundant information for the revaluation of a firm that evolved from a local to an international presence. This paper aims to offer an insight into one of the many chapters yet to be written about its history: the process of the firm’s internationalization and the techniques used in crafting classical furniture as a symbol of decorative sumptuousness.
