Retrospectives and Prospects. Diverse Approaches to Artisanal and Sustainable Furniture.

Abstract

Contemporary furniture craftsmanship linked to the concept of sustainability has adopted a variety of approaches, ranging from the historical to the contemporary. The purpose of this research is to carry out a comparative analysis of several case studies in the rural context of Asturias, through which a categorization of diverse approaches is established to examine differences, convergences, possibilities, and challenges. Among other aspects, the study analyzes the care of ecosystems, the use of local knowledge, and the incorporation of criteria adapted to the current context.

The methodology combines the analysis of bibliographic sources to frame key concepts and perspectives with fieldwork based on semi-structured interviews conducted with the main actors involved in these projects. This methodological approach allows for a deeper understanding of the techniques, materials, ideas, and challenges faced by artisans in the development of sustainable furniture models.
