Resumen

El cuadro Experiment with an Air Pump (1768) de Joseph Wright of Derby tuvo como gran novedad presentar a la ciencia en el centro de atención artística que hasta entonces había ocupado la religión de manera mayoritaria. Dos siglos más tarde, e inspirándose en esta obra, los poetas ingleses Sue Hubbard y John Forth utilizaron el recurso de la écfrasis para hacer una reflexión sobre la ciencia desde la poesía. Sus composiciones poéticas están en la voz del científico y en la de una de las niñas, respectivamente, e invitan a una reflexión sobre los objetivos y los límites de la ciencia dentro de la sociedad postmoderna.
