Resumen
La figura de Safo guarda una relación especial con el siglo XIX. Diversos estudios se han ocupado ya de rastrear sus múltiples apariciones y de dimensionar su inmensa trascendencia entre poetas románticos y victorianos, tanto europeos como americanos. Sin embargo, hay ciertas omisiones llamativas en dichos estudios que ameritan nuestra atención crítica y contrastiva, como ocurre con el caso del canadiense Bliss Carman y su poemario Sappho: One Hundred Lyrics (1903). En este artículo, compararemos esta obra con el precedente, harto semejante, que sienta Michael Field en Long Ago (1889), contextualizaremos ambas propuestas sáficas dentro de las tendencias dominantes que las anteceden y desvelaremos sus estrechas correlaciones en torno a diversas categorías aparentemente dicotómicas.
