RESUMEN:
Su figura ha tomado crecientemente mayor relieve con el paso del tiempo; de hecho, hoy día nadie duda en reconocerle su gran talla como hombre renacentista filólogo, gracias a su muy diversa actividad intelectual. Pero lo que parece de mayor interés subrayar es la atención permanente que le dedica a la cuestión filológica. Escriba en el género que escriba, dedique su obra a no importa qué materia, use una lengua directamente o mediante la traducción, siempre tiene muy presente el valor y la función del lenguaje y la importancia de la palabra y de los nombres. Por encima de cualquier otro aspecto o detalle, el filológico constituye el elemento central y transversal de toda su actividad literaria.

ABSTRACT:
His importance has been growing over time. Nowadays no-one has any doubt as to his signifiance as a Renaissance philologist, thanks to his varied intellectual endeavours. However, one must lay emphasis on his steadfast commitment to philological issues. No matter what genre he writes in or the importance of his material, whether directly or via translation, he stresses the value and function of language. This is especially so with regards to lexis and proper nouns. Above any other facet or detail, philology is central and transverse element in all of his literary endeavours.
