About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Archivum publishes scientific articles and reviews on classical and modern languages and literatures. Its orientation is academic and it is aimed at an audience that specialises in philological research.

It prefers to publish papers in Spanish.

However, articles written in other modern languages in the study areas of the philological degrees taught in the University of Oviedo's Faculty of Philosophy and Arts are accepted (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Asturian).

Publication frequency

The journal is published on a yearly basis.

Peer Review Process

Contributions received are first assessed by at least two members of the Editorial Board, who report on whether or not they meet the Archivum journal standards.

If the standards are met, contributions are then assessed anonymously by two external reviewers, following the double-blind system. If any discrepancy is found, a third expert is called in. Lastly, contributions have to be approved by the journal's management team.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides its content in immediate open access and full text versions, under the principle that allowing free access to research results leads to a greater exchange of knowledge overall.

Journal History

The journal Archivum was set up in 1951 by professors Emilio Alarcos and José-María Martínez Cachero. For many years it was the "official" magazine of the University of Oviedo's Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. When three faculties were created in the 1990s, Archivum was linked to the Faculty of Philology. With the three above-mentioned Faculties being merged again, under the name of Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Archivum continues to specialise in philology.

The journal Archivum has an excellent reputation in the field of philology - particularly Hispanic philology - and is one of the journals that has the greatest scientific impact.

Through Archivum, 206 international journals are received, which endorse the prestige the magazine has built throughout its history.

Under the new phase, which started with Issue 60 (in 2010), the aim is to improve a whole range of formal aspects that entail getting the journal included in international databases and improving the qualification of those in which it is already included. To this end, the editorial rules are to be overhauled and other presentation improvements are to be introduced, which we hope will contribute to the modernising and updating of our highly prestigious scientific journal. All this is taking place along with the invaluable help of the University of Oviedo's Publications Service, which has ensured its publication since its origins.
