La memoria recuperada. Una aportación al estudio de la arquitectura desaparecida de Pontevedra

RESUMEN:
Las ansias modernizadoras del siglo xix produjeron grandes transformaciones que implicaron la destrucción de calles, barrios y edificios de interés para entender la evolución de la urbe. La escasez de documentación histórica sobre buena parte de ese patrimonio desaparecido y su desconocimiento, hacen imprescindible la indagación en otras fuentes, entre las que se encuentra la iconografía urbana. En este artículo mostraremos la utilidad de ese material que atesoran algunos museos para el estudio de las arquitecturas destruidas en el siglo xix, ilustrando su valor a partir del análisis de un caso concreto, como es el de la ciudad de Pontevedra.1

ABSTRACT:
The yearning for modernization during the nineteenth Century led to large changes that involved the destruction of streets, quarters and buildings interesting for understanding the evolution of the metropolis. The scarcity of historical documentation regarding much of that disappeared heritage and the ignorance of it, make the research from other sources, including urban iconography among others, essential. This article will show the usefulness of the material that some museums hoard for studying architectures destroyed during the nineteenth century, illustrating its value from the analysis of a particular case as the city of Pontevedra is.
