Abstract
This article provides new information about Catalina de Canaus, who was imprisoned by the Seville Inquisition in 1560. Firstly, it clarifies her ancestry (her parents were Justo de Canaus, a German who worked in the printing house of Ungut and the Crombergers, and Catalina van der Broek) and her birthplace (in all probability Bruges); then, details are given of her commercial activities and her imprisonment; and finally, the strong defence she made of her estate on her release from prison is presented, together with a summary of the relevant documents.
