Abstract

While the tradition tells that personal execution was proscribed in 326 BC, we have news that was applied on several occasions during the middle ages and the modern age. In the present work we try to demonstrate that also during the last Roman Empire, around the 4th century dC, were measures of personal coercion on the debtor, despite the legislative efforts to prevent it..
