Abstract

The collective volume ¿Museos para quién? ¿Museos cómo? El caso de Santander y sus contextos (Ediciones Trea, 2024), edited by Luis Sazatornil Ruiz, examines the role of museums and cultural centres in processes of urban transformation and in the shaping of contemporary cultural policies, using the case of Santander as its main framework. Through contributions from specialists in art history, cultural management, criticism and museum leadership, the book offers a critical and plural reading of the relationships between architecture, heritage, research, citizenship and political action. The publication may also be understood as a broader reflection on the challenges faced by Atlantic port cities in a context of cultural paradigm shift, questioning models based on architectural monumentality and advocating for the relevance of research, education and the social sustainability of museum projects.
