El poblamiento cubano, articulado por las siete villas coloniales, se transformó durante el siglo XIX y primer tercio del XX con el auge de la caña y las infraestructuras de transporte (ferrocarril, Carretera Central). Su actual configuración la adquiere en la etapa revolucionaria, siendo la reforma agraria y la difusión industrial responsables de una tendencia al equilibrio territorial.

Le peuplement a Cube.- Le peuplement cubain, articulé par les sept villes coloniales, s'est transformé pendant le XIXe siècle et le premier tiers du XXe avec l'expansion de la canne à sucre et les infrastructures du transport (chemin de fer, Carretera Central). Sa configuration actuelle a été acquise pendant l'étape révolutionnaire, étant la reforme agraire et la diffusion industrielle les facteurs responsables d'une tendance à l'équilibre territorial.

The human settlement in Cuba.- The Cuban settlement, organized by the former seven colonial towns, have been transformed during the XIXth century and the first third of the XXth by the spread of sugar cane and transportation network (railway, Carretera Central). Its present configuration is due to the revolutionary period, being the agrarian reform and the industrial diffusion responsible for the trend to the territorial balance.
